gardening Advice, ideas and inspiration
Hi!
I'm Anita. I discovered gardening back in 2012 and haven't stopped since. The garden is located in Manukau, a 20 minute drive from downtown Auckland in New Zealand. I live with mum. I have spent the past decade developing our garden at her home, which contains a broad range of both edible and ornamental plants. There is an extensive vegetable potager and herb garden. We have developed a mini orchard consisting of dwarf and standard sized fruit trees, in order to increase our level of self-sufficiency. We also grow a broad range of flowers year-round, including bulbs, annuals and perennials. Three years ago, I discovered dahlias and got swept away by dahlia mania, so I have steered the garden in this direction. We have a dedicated rose garden consisting of many different standard roses, including New Zealand and David Austin varieties. The garden is ever-changing and constantly evolving. Each season sees plants at a different stage of their life cycle, so there is always something bound to be flowering or fruiting which is exciting.
I write a gardening blog and a free weekly gardening newsletter which contains a lot of tips. You can locate these in the tabs at the top of the page. I have recently created an index of topics covered in my gardening newsletters to help readers locate the information they are looking for more easily. You can also use the tool to search the site, which also appears as a tab at the top of the page. I am also on Facebook (search for "Anita's Garden") and Instagram (@anitakundu.nz). You can use the icons below to locate my pages.
Our garden has featured in the April 2017 edition of the New Zealand Gardener Magazine, New Zealand's leading gardening publication. Click here to read a full-text version of the article. I was also placed Runner-up in the Yates Spring Veggie Growing Challenge in 2018.
I love hearing from readers and receiving feedback. If you would like to contact me, please feel free to use the contact form which you can find under the tab at the top of the page. I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible. At the moment, I work by myself. Anita's Garden is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to educating people about gardening so they can learn how to grow their own food to reduce grocery bills and improve their family's health. I am especially interested in hearing from business-minded individuals, entrepeneurs and passionate gardeners, both in New Zealand and overseas, who might be interested in working with me to develop this enterprise.
I hope you find my website useful in your gardening endeavours, wherever in the world you are situated. Even if your climate and growing conditions are different to mine, gardening principles are generally universal. I really hope you enjoy reading about our garden and perhaps learn something new or interesting in the process.
Happy gardening!
Take care,
Anita Kundu
